Click each of these screenshots here, here, here, here, and here, and tell me what’s the first thing you noticed. No? Found nothing? Take a closer look. Noticed a similarity? Yep, you got it! And this brings me to this question: Shall we enforce the idea of using one dedicated font for the dialogue on every show we’re going to make in the future instead of assigning different fonts for every show?

The font I favored so far is Headache.ttf. It’s not too thin, not too flashy and has a personality that can blend in on any show. Why am I asking you? I want to know your reaction first before actually enforcing it and it’s a sort of a way to prevent a possible critical decision blunder. =)

Oh and, this is just a hypothetical question so don’t take this very seriously. What if we redo (typesetting, translation and encode) Shoujo Sect ~Innocent Lovers~?

P.S.

We’ve been criticized recently regarding the quality of our recent DVD encodes saying there are lots of haloing and other unspeakable artifacts so I’m gonna make my statement now. I’m not an encode-fu master so I’m sorry for any errors I’ve made. I will improve but not overtime though. Regarding me leaving those artifacts behind, before I encode, I ask myself this question: “Remove all those artifacts by blurring the hell out of the video and kill some details or reduce/minimize the artifacts while retaining a crisp video and preserving some details and accept the fact that there’s no perfect way to get rid of them?” If you got a better option, please do tell me.

With that said, there will be a version 2 of Aki Sora – Yume no Naka episode 1 and redoing Sasameki Koto DVD encodes. Episodes 1-4v2, 5-8 this January… hopefully. And… De geso~!

And here is the Blu-ray version of episode 1 and our second Blu-ray release! “Episode 8+ where,” you say? We’ll have to wait for a while because the raw provider is out on vacation (the one I mentioned before) so we don’t have access to his FTP and ISOs. However, we do have the first few episodes and if all goes according to plan (nothing goes according to plan, really), we’ll release each of the BD rip weekly.

NOTES:

Each BD release comes with 3 versions – 1080p, 720p, and 480p (XviD). “Which version is the best for me,” you say? If you’re on a notebook or prefer watching anime on TV via a DivX-compatible DVD player or in any portable device, go with the 480p version. If you have a decent multi-core PC/MAC with a small-medium sized monitor, go with the 720p version. If you have a good multi-core PC/MAC with a gigantic LED monitor (eg. Cowboys Stadium-caliber monitor), the 1080p version is for you. Unfortunately the encode is not DXVA-compliant but we will implement this on our future encodes. We do recommend you use CoreAVC to decode the video for the 1080p version if you experience lag and it will greatly benefit Nvidia (7 series to latest) users with its CUDA acceleration. More or less you get 50% CPU load reduction. Playback trouble? Go to our How to Play Anime page for a solution!

RELEASE NOTES:

Not to make this section longer, I’ll get to the point: Main dialogue font changed (same font as Aki Sora, Working!!, and PSG), OP and ED translations reduced to one line instead of two (English and Romaji) and will follow the  same alternating style used in our Sasameki Koto DVD.

Speaking of Sasameki Koto DVD, we’re making new encodes because apparently I failed/too late to realize people hates halos. Yeah, I know, that was dumb of me.  Oh and the K-ON!! 01 1080p version, HotFile DDL and IRC bot next week. The encode is done but I don’t have the connection needed to upload it to one of our staff who has a better connection for seeding, etc. 20 KB/S + 750MB of data + 8 hours, 5 days a week limited internet access = it sucks. D:

Oh wow! We’ll catch up!

If you felt disappointed at the serious lack of Azunyan in episode 4, episode 5 will make up for it. This episode takes place at the same time Yui, Ritsu, Mio and Mugi went to Kyoto. Anyway, sorry for the delay!

For the technical stuff, the translation for this episode was done by our new translator, 10sigh_baka and will continue to translate the rest of the episodes. Muon, the translator for the previous episodes will now focus on Working and will still participate in K-ON as the second translation checker next to Chef Trace. Why am I saying this? Just letting you know we have no intention of dropping this not even the slightest. =)

Translator’s Note:

00:09:16 – Chirashi sushi: literally scattered sushi, a dish where sushi ingredients and seaweed are dumped onto sushi rice instead of rolling it all up. Usually spelled “chirashi-zushi” in most cookbooks.
